Dog and Puppy Vaccinations

There are five vaccinations we recommend and each protects your from common illnesses that can lead to canine illness and even death.
1. Dog or Puppy Booster. This vaccine is for all dogs and puppies. It is a single vaccine that protects against Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza and Parvovirus. The booster we use also includes a vaccine for Leptospirosis, which is a bacterium that is known for causing serious kidney and liver disease in dogs and people.

2. Lyme Disease. Lyme disease is very prevalent in our area and is transmitted to dogs and people by deer ticks. Lyme Disease can lead to arthritis as well as kidney disease. Since Lyme Disease is one of the most common disease we diagnosis, we strongly encourage vaccinating your dogs to protect them and you. The Lyme Disease vaccine we use is 92% protective and it is easier to prevent than to diagnose and treat Lyme Disease.

3. Bordetella. Bordetella, commonly referred to as Kennel Cough causes severe coughing in dogs and can lead to death in puppies. Bordetella is an extremely contagious disease and is most likely to be present where there are large concentrations of dogs, like in a kennel, at the groomer or at dog parks. Consequently, most all boarding kennels require dogs to be vaccinated against kennel cough prior to boarding.

4. Canine Influenza. Canine Influenza or Dog Flu is a less prevalent than the other pet diseases mentioned above, but is more serious, difficult to treat and can cause death. Like Kennel Cough, it spreads where there is a large concentration of dogs. For this reason, we recommend vaccinating pets that frequent kennels, groomers and dog parks.

5. Rabies. Rabies is a deadly virus that cannot be treated. Rabies affects all animals including dogs, cats, and humans. Although it is rarely seen in domesticated animals and pets it is in the wildlife of Cecil County. All dogs and cats in Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania are legally required to be vaccinated against Rabies. Since our pets are more likely to come in contact with wildlife such as birds, bats, raccoons, rats and etc., vaccinating them helps protect people from the disease.

Cat and Kitten Vaccinations

There are three vaccines we administer for cats and kittens. They protect your feline friend from serious illness and death.
1. Distemper and Upper Respiratory Viruses. The prevailing practice of vaccinating cats against Distemper has made the disease uncommon. However, it is still a very serious illness that usually causes death. The Upper Respiratory Virus can serious diseases in your cat's eyes as well as sneezing and sinus infections making your cat very ill and may cause death in kittens.

2. Feline Leukemia Virus. Feline Leukemia Virus a virus that leads to several very serious illnesses in pets. It is spread through direct contact between infected cats to other cats. The virus suppresses the cat's immune system and causes leukemia, anemia, tumors and other diseases. There is no treatment for the Feline Leukemia Virus, so it will kill your cat. If your vaccinated cat goes outdoors it should be protected as this vaccine is about 90% protective.

3. Rabies. As stated above, all dogs and cats in Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania are legally required to be vaccinated against Rabies.
